Yampatika is fortunate to have a dedicated and talented team of volunteers. We match
the interests and skills of our volunteers with our programs to find the best fit.
There are many opportunities for you to get involved and support environmental education
in Northwest Colorado. Here are a few examples of our volunteer positions:
Program hosts/helpers. Trained volunteers assist in leading nature
hikes, greeting participants, or helping out with kids programs. All volunteers
attend an orientation at the beginning of each season to help them understand Yampatika's
mission and programming and to get to know our staff, board and other volunteers.
Behind the scenes. Answer phones and questions, register participants
for programs, prepare programs, maintain discovery boxes, and manage visitor contact
numbers and evaluations. There is always work to be done at our office!
Use your creativity to make fliers, posters, ads and more to help
promote Yampatika and our programs. We welcome new and fresh ideas. Handing out
flyers at the ski area and distributing our activity schedule to businesses around
town are additional ways that you can help get the word out!
Special Events, Tabling at Events and Fundraising: Help plan the Wild
Edible Feast and other fundraisers and events. Represent Yampatika at community
events. Be creative in developing new fundraisers and events that tie into our mission.
Kiosks. Help maintain the kiosks along the Yampa River Core Trail,
keeping them fresh with seasonal activities and information.
Grounds and Building Maintenance at the Environmental Learning Center.
Work at the City-owned Legacy Ranch where Yampatika operates the Environmental Learning
Center (ELC). If you are handy, like to get dirty in the garden, or just love to
clean and organize then join us at the ELC!
If you are interested in helping with any of these activities, or know anyone who
is, please email Melissa Calhoon, our Volunteer Coordinator, at melissa@yampatika.org. You can also email Yampatika
at info@yampatika.org or
call (970) 871-9151.
